They are easier to clean and therefore, more hygienic. A bamboo steamer is usually less expensive than a steel steamer.
It also looks good and can be used over a wok, but food
tends to stick in it unless it is lined with leaves, which
can be an inconvenience.
Bamboo also tends to retain smells and flavors, so it is not as practical a choice as a steel steamer. If you do a lot of steaming, buy a tiered steel steamer so you can cook several things at once.
For occasional steaming, a collapsible basket steel steamer is a cheaper alternative. It will fit inside a saucepan of any size and fold flat for compact storage when not in use.
Make sure that your steel steamer has a lid that fits well, otherwise the steam will escape and your food will cook unevenly. |

This is a narrow pan about 4 inches deep with an elongated
steaming rack that can be pulled out on two side-hooks. It is invaluable for cooking whole fish such as salmon and can also double-up as serving ware.
There is lot of variety available in market and with little search you will surely get the one that suits your needs best.
