We have moved into a confortable era where many households have dual-incomes and people have learnt to look for and enjoy the finer things in life.

Nowadays, we do not merely settle for second-best, especially when it comes to our quality of life and our health.

We are watching what we eat and pounding the treadmill and going for regular health screenings.  Yet, there is one aspect of our overall plan that most of us have taken for granted or overlooked, and that is the quality of our drinking water.

We should not consume plain tap water, even if it has been boiled and cooled.  This is because almost every country in the world has added minerals, preservatives and other chemicals to the water to kill any germs or bacteria in our water pipe system.

While the water itself may be fine, the additives can have a long-term effect on our health. To manage this problem,  some of us install steel filters to our water taps.

These steel filters will remove the unwanted additives and what comes out of them is pure fresh water.  This filtered water is softer.  It is the best type of water for coffee lovers and for making stock, as any prior salt or chemicals in the liquid will spoil the taste of the final brew or stock that results.

For people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a common gastro-intestinal disorder these days, steel filters can help to alleviate some uncomfortable symptoms brought on by the harsh chemicals in regular tap water.

Steel filters were rather expensive when they were first introduced to the market, but technology has evolved over the years to produce steel filters that are more economical but work just as well, if not better.

Steel filters can be standing units with a short hose that attach to your taps or smaller units that can be affixed directly onto each tap.  Manufacturers have made steel filters that can be readily installed and taken apart for easy maintenance and regular cleaning.

Water makes up a whopping 90 percent of our entire body mass, compared to which, food can almost be said to be negligible.  That fact alone should make anyone closely examine what we drink and the quality of it. So if you still do not own any steel filters, do not hesitate any longer and buy your first one today!
