A steel cocktail shaker is used in drinks that contain fruit juices, syrups, very thick liqueurs, or any ingredients that demand a thorough mix. The topcap should fit very tightly to the point of almost being difficult to remove so as to ensure that none of the ingredients leak or seep out when a drink is being concocted and shaken up.
Because the ice gets knocked about in the steel cocktail
shaker, there may be considearble dilution, and a clear drink
cannot easily be produced. You can therefore tell if a steel cocktail shaker is of quality design by checking whether it incorporates a strainer in the topmost chamber. This also simplifies the serving of drinks.
A Boston shaker, comprising one half of metal and the other of glass, are used by some bartenders.
Although the glass can double up to serve and thereby saving you more space, the contraption requires more skill than a proper steel cocktail shaker as it is easier to break open and is less convenient in the pouring since a separate strainer is required. With your steel cocktail shaker, you only need to assemble some glasses, a bucket of crushed ice, and a small selection of liquers in order to serve your guests proper drinks. |

Place them on the top of a small cabinet or the shorter side of the dining table or even on your coffee table.
If space is really a major problem, you can reduce the number of liquors by pre-planning to serve only one or two types of cocktails for your party each time. You can prepare all the garnishes for your drinks in advance by using a small knife and cutting board in your kitchen.
If there are to be many guests, squeeze plenty of juice
beforehand for mixed drinks, but not so far in advance that
it loses its freshness.
The portability of a steel cocktail shaker also allows you to bring it on romantic picnics or to the beach. You can even bring it to the office if you have to entertain many well-to-do business clients. Of course, do not do that unless you have express permission (alcohol is still frowned on in the workplace) or unless you are the boss!
